HEALDSBURG: SMALL TOWN, BIG ART
A proliferation of exceptional fine art galleries, located within walking distance of the central plaza, is pushing Healdsburg up the ranks as a nationally recognized fine arts destination.
There are over 20 fine art and craft galleries within three blocks of the historic plaza. Garnering national attention requires more than the simple presence of galleries, however. Embracing artistic diversity feeds the dynamism vital to a thriving art scene. While there is a deep and abiding celebration of what makes Healdsburg and the surrounding wine country beautiful, galleries here embrace a broad range of subjects, media, styles and processes.
Figurative and abstract sculpture, from monumental to maquette, is here to be discovered. Ephemeral work on paper commingles with handmade jewelry meant to stand the test of time. Sweeping renditions of the Sonoma countryside can be found alongside Mesoamerican inspired abstracts. Limited edition fine art photography, fine art glass, assemblages and more are here for the discerning collector. Internationally acclaimed, nationally established and local, emerging talent is on display from venue to venue.
Art thrives in this town beyond the walls of the traditional gallery, as well. Healdsburg Art Atelier and the Healdsburg Center for the Arts train and support aspiring local artists. Bordering downtown is the Foss Creek Pathway with large sculpture installations all along the path, courtesy of the Vogt Family Sculpture Foundation.
With fine art galleries abounding, visitors from all over the globe and locals alike are finding that in the hours between recreational activities, wine tasting and fine dining, it is truly the art that abides.
